The fire between them is hot enough to melt the ice for this curvy girl and her hockey-playing hero.

Laila

Moving to Broken Bend, Texas to take care of my grandmother is a no brainer. Finding out she signed me up for a dating app without my permission almost sends me packing. Until I realize my date is the hulking hockey player I’ve been fantasizing about for days.

Magnus

I’ve always kept tight control over every part of my life. Then I meet Laila. She’s younger, sweeter, and sassier than a man like me deserves. That doesn’t stop me from wanting her. Or doing whatever I have to do to convince her she belongs to me.

The Bachelors of Broken Bend—foster brothers who all grew up in the care of the legendary Mama Mae—are about to meet their matches. These men have experienced the ache of abandonment and loss, but they'll find connection and the healing power of love in the arms of the curvy, strong-willed women who challenge them and ultimately capture their hearts.

Tropes:

  • Hockey-Playing Hero
  • Curvy Gal Heroine
  • Age Gap
  • Arranged Date

Movement by the front door caught my attention. I turned my head, and that’s when I saw her. Dark hair, the color of a perfect cup of espresso, framed her face. She had on a hot pink polka dot apron with white ruffles around the edges and a bow tied at her waist. The combination of long dark lashes, luscious curves, and plump pink lips sent blood pumping through my veins.

I shifted my feet and squeezed my hands into fists, hoping the slight adjustment would redistribute the blood flow before I ended up with a semi-hard-on just from looking at her. Gray eyes flashed with annoyance as she made her way to the one open spot at the bar. It just so happened luck was on my side because the only empty spot was right next to me.

“Hey!” She leaned over and waved, trying to get the bartender’s attention.

I shifted over to make room for the gorgeous brunette. She was even more stunning up close.

“Excuse me.” I lifted a hand and motioned to the guy working the bar.

He nodded at me while he filled a pint glass from the tap. “What can I get for you?”

“You can take care of her first.” I tilted my head toward the woman on my right. I wasn’t in a hurry. The more time I spent at the bar meant less time watching my brothers ingest copious amounts of alcohol. Something about the woman next to me told me she wasn’t the patient type.

She glanced from me to the bartender, just as the slightest shade of pink colored her cheeks. “I’m working at the café next door and the breaker blew. Hilde said the box is in the basement and one of your guys will need to go down and flip it for me.”

“Sorry, I’m slammed right now.” He grabbed a handful of shot glasses and set them up on the bar. “I can get to it when things die down a little.”

“Never mind, I’ll do it myself. How do I get down there?”
The bartender pointed to a door at the back of the bar. “There might be a few tables in the way down there. If you’ll wait, I’ll help you move them.”

“That’s okay, I’m tougher than I look.” She pushed off the bar and turned.

“I’ll go with you,” I offered. Something about the woman in the apron made me speak up. Maybe it was her no-nonsense attitude, or maybe I was looking for any excuse to get away from the bachelor party for a few minutes. Whatever it was, I didn’t want to let her out of my sight.

Her forehead wrinkled. “You know anything about breaker boxes?”

I wondered what she’d look like wearing a smile instead of the irritated frown. “I can move tables.”

“Fine.” She sized me up, her gaze leaving a trail of heat in its wake. “Let’s go.”
